However, upon closer examination, it is evident that democratic politicians typically have a greater motivation to take care of the interests of the people. Therefore, it is not a coincidence that historically, democracies have performed better than dictatorships. Finally, they have a strong tendency to protect their citizens from abuse and serve as a defence against ideological fantasies that have often led to famines and genocides. Of course, democracies are not perfect, and their advantages are not without exceptions, but overall, it is the least bad form of governance when considering the well-being and welfare of the population.
