The Democracy Tech Hackathon and Entrepreneur Fellowship: Bridging Innovations Across Georgia, Moldova, and Denmark
About the project
For now, four years in a row the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, through its Democracy Tech Entrepreneur Fellowship program, has equipped entrepreneurs from Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Armenia with tech solutions to democracies’ problems with the know-how of starting and successfully scaling democratically driven ventures. The democracy tech fellows from Georgia and Moldova are selected through regional Democracy Tech Hackathons in Tbilisi and Chisinau where freedom and democracy-loving entrepreneurs, out-of-the-box thinkers, policy makers and activists are invited to innovate new technological solutions to democracies’ challenges.
The New Democracy Fund will support Alliance of Democracies’ democracy tech fellows from Moldova and Georgia, all in an effort to create new technological solutions for addressing democratic challenges, strengthening the capabilities of democracy tech entrepreneurs, and fostering enhanced cross-regional cooperation. The project includes three main activities: the Democracy Tech Entrepreneur Fellowship, Democracy Tech Hackathons, and an exchange trip to Denmark including presenting at the annual Copenhagen Democracy Summit in May.
The organisations involved
The Alliance of Democracies Foundation is a non-profit organisation founded in 2017 by Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the former NATO Secretary General and former Prime Minister of Denmark. The team is based in Brussels, Berlin and Copenhagen and brings expertise from international diplomacy and human rights to election integrity and strategic communications. The foundation’s overarching purpose is to revitalize democracies and bring them together in an alliance for peace, prosperity, and the advancement of democracy worldwide.
ForSet is a Tbilisi-based creative enterprise on a mission to strengthen change-makers using data, design, and technology. Founded in 2017, it is one of the first organizations of its kind in Georgia and unites the country’s some of the best designers, illustrators, animators, researchers, journalists, and web developers to uncover stories behind vast data and to visualize them.
